Open Living, Hidden Possibilities
Bold finishes and a clever secret have transformed this kitchen into a modern space made for entertaining. Our Smith & Sons Manawatū team opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room, creating a more spacious, connected setting where cooking and conversation can happen together.
One of the standout features is hidden in plain sight. What appears to be a regular pair of pantry doors opens to reveal a walk-in pantry, complete with shelving and bench space. The matching doors blend seamlessly into the surrounding cabinetry, keeping the kitchen’s clean lines while providing generous storage behind the scenes.
Deep charcoal cabinetry creates a striking contrast with white benchtops featuring warm gold and grey veining. A waterfall bench end and matching splashback carry this detail through the design, while gold-toned tapware, timber shelving and warm flooring soften the palette.
Wide drawers provide accessible everyday storage, and breakfast-bar seating offers a welcoming spot for guests to gather. The kitchen now feels part of the living space, making it easier to prepare a meal while staying connected with family and friends.
The result is a kitchen that combines striking style with thoughtful practicality, bringing open-plan living and cleverly concealed storage together.
