Transformed into a Staycation Paradise
We have turned the homeowner’s backyard into their own personal getaway. “Our backyard is giving us that Fiji holiday vibe.”
While we were replacing a shower for the clients, they asked us how they could maximise their outdoor living space and this was the outcome of the initial conversation. A few things on their wish-list were to utilise the areas that were currently unusable, create indoor-outdoor flow and ideally make a space that they could enjoy all year-round.
This space for the townhouse is the accessway for the homeowners to get from their garage to their home and is the only outdoor area that they have for entertaining. The existing space was a covered walkway and paved area for outdoor furniture with a small patch of lawn.
Firstly, we drew up a plan to see how we could use the area to its full potential. Given that the client wanted to maximise their living space, we lifted the existing pavers and framed out for a new expansive deck. We used a low maintenance, high quality and finish composite decking from Outdure Decking. A concrete pad was constructed for the new spa pool within the decking and the client had a putting green installed, which is every golfer’s dream.
We wanted to ensure the entire backyard tied in together, so we rebuilt all the garden edging in a box shape using the same product as the decking.
The centrepiece of this project is the wall fixed automated louvre system installed by the amazing team at Sunset Spaces. Sliding glass panels were fitted to all 3 sides, creating a sanctuary, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor. The panels can be closed on chilly winters night to keep the warmth in and shield from the rain. Or they can slide open during the heat of summer to allow a much-invited breeze in. LED strip lighting was added for the perfect ambience no matter the occasion.
The existing walkway from the garage to the home was covered over using the same composite decking and the existing pergola also received a makeover. We removed the clearlite and re-roofed using coloursteel to match the house roof. We installed Marley classic guttering in white to match the newly painted timber framing.
The end result? A backyard that the homeowners are proud of and can delight in all year long.
