Master Suite Extension

Our team at Smith & Sons Franklin recently completed this extension project in Tuakau. The homeowners approached us looking to add more space to their home by creating a new master suite.

The existing house was ideally suited for an extension, allowing us to extend the gable end by 4 metres to create the additional space. We guided the clients through our DPC process, designing and delivering an extension that includes a spacious master bedroom, ensuite, and walk-in wardrobe.

Externally, the extension was finished with Shadowclad cladding and Colorsteel roofing in a dark black tone. Over time, these materials will weather naturally and blend seamlessly with the existing home.

We were able to reuse the existing joinery and incorporate it into the extension, helping maintain continuity with the original home. The finishing touch to the exterior was reinstating the original deck at the end of the house, which we had carefully removed and set aside at the start of the project knowing it would be reinstated once the extension was complete.

Inside, JB’s Flooring Xtra installed carpet throughout the new master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe, with vinyl flooring in the ensuite. The ensuite features all-new bathroom fittings from Mico Plumbing, including a standout double vanity with vessel basins. The clients chose black fixtures, which contrast beautifully with the wood-look vanity and stacker cabinet designed for laundry appliances, all complemented by a soothing sage green wall colour. One of our favourite features of this new space is the custom barn doors with black tracks, opening up to reveal the new walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.

Overall, this project has been a fantastic transformation for the homeowners. The extension blends seamlessly with the existing home, the interiors are thoughtfully designed. Both our team and the clients are happy with the result, and the homeowners are excited to start enjoying their new master suite.
