This solid built home on Geddis Street in Rangiora needed a complete internal reconfiguration, to bring it up to date and make it flow and work better for modern family life.
Originally with separate kitchen, sunroom and dining, the owners wished to expand their living area into one open plan spacious room. This was done by knocking down the kitchen wall where the old serving hatch and floor to ceiling cupboards were, and a new kitchen bench was installed in its' place.
The old fireplace was removed from the existing lounge and the walls squared up to provide a better alignment and the old dining room was also knocked through. The new internal walls were lined and gib board painted in white and the timber frames and doors were retained to maintain the character feel of the home.
The bathroom, toilet and laundry access also required remodelling as the get to the laundry, you needed to walk through the bathroom, so this was fixed with adjusting the hallway layout and adding separate doors for each room. A larger master bedroom walk - in wardrobe was also made possible with taking out an entry door, to create a new space.
The bathroom was also completely replaced with new fixtures and fittings and was repainted in aqua blue.
Beautiful work retaining the character of the home by the team at Smith & Sons Christchurch Riccarton.
