About Us – Smith & Sons Hutt Valley
The Smith & Sons Hutt Valley franchise is owned and operated by John and Vanessa Manley.
John was born and raised in Hutt Valley, and has 24 years of building experience behind him. John and Vanessa have been married 16 years and have 3 children who very much keep us on our toes! We’re both very down-to-earth individuals who enjoy helping others create their dream homes and having renovated several houses for ourselves, we understand the process from both a professional and personal point of view, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your vision come to life. John is also a Volunteer Rural Firefighter and enjoys serving the community.
John's building knowledge enables him to understand the commitments required by a builder and owner to make the renovation process an enjoyable and successful experience. He prides himself on the quality workmanship he delivers and the positive client feedback his team continue to receive.

Hutt Valley encompasses the Hutt River, Remutaka Forest Park, Staglands Wildlife Reserve, and Matiu/Somes Island, home to kiwis and blue penguins. Most Hutt Valley tours transport you to filming locations from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, typically Kaitoke Regional Park, where Rivendell scenes were filmed, and Hutt River, which doubled as the Great River Anduin. Some tours also visit the Stansborough Mill, where costumes for the film series were created.
